"Hire for attitude train for skills"

To those in permanent employment being your own boss can sound like a dream, but the reality is very different. While freelancing has its perks, it definitely has its pitfalls (many of which can be terrifying to navigate)! No matter how stressed or under pressure you feel, remember to remind yourself why you’re doing it. Did you go freelance for the flexibility? The autonomy? The variety of work? Focusing back on your main motivations is really all you need to steel yourself for the hard times and work ahead.

NEVER GET TOO COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR SKILLS

Constant skill development is important in all jobs, but even more critical for freelancers. Because no one will send you to a company-paid workshop, give you resources, or help you stay up to date with your skills. You have to do it all by yourself.Skills can rapidly become obsolete, especially nowadays. Never get too comfortable with your own knowledge.

Hire for attitude, train for skills is a motto more and more companies are adopting when it comes to recruiting. Freelancers may be more often hired for skills, but attitude is still important when selecting a freelancer. Or, to be more precise, I think it’s a key deciding factor in whether a company works with a freelancer AGAIN.Skills can take you to places, but attitude will keep you there.I’m gonna leave out the very obvious attitude traits all freelancers must possess, like being optimistic, patient etc. etc. Yeah, they are incredibly important, but there are other things as well that can ensure your freelancing career will be a sustainable one.

Freelancers have lots of struggles to conquer..

The Struggles of Freelancing

For every freelancer or remote worker in the world, struggles and hindrances exist that prevent us from doing the job accurately and quickly. Some end up losing clients due to these struggles. Living in a third world country results to the first and most common struggle of any freelancer in the Philippines.

#1 Stable internet connection

Most freelancers rely on a stable and speedy internet connection. However, with the current state of the country, it’s almost impossible to find a stable internet connection with great customer service and speed.

#2 Being unproductive

Freelancers struggle with finding the suitable workflow that fits them and their daily lives.

#3 Finding clients for freelancing

More of than not, freelancers aim to find a client that will last a lifetime.

#4 Modes of payment

Most get giddy when they secure a client and get to work. However, one of the main issues begin with when do they get paid or how will they even get paid.

#5 A virtual office or workspace

Alongside with creating a suitable workflow for you, finding the right workspace for you comes next.

Keep in mind..

Pay close attention to what companies are hiring for, anticipate their needs, stay ahead of trends, and always, always spend time on learning new skills, whether through e-courses, industry events, or books and research..A lot of freelancers think this is a luxury and they should spend all their time and money on chasing jobs. But, once again, this is only short-term thinking – investing in your own skills and knowledge will greatly pay off in the long run.

"With every hurdle you face during your freelancing journey, remember it always gives you a lesson. Find the beauty between every obstacle and turn it in your favor."
